The arts are officially recognised to have a positive contribution to make to social cohesion and urban regeneration. Investigation of the policy implications of the new stress on subsidised arts and arts organisations as agents of social change. Consequences that would follow from the adoption of the social impacts of the arts as a new policy rationale for future arts funding.
