Why we make art : and why it is taught

What function or purpose does art satisfy in today's society? Section one gives a general overview of the nature of art and its relationship to education. In section two are psychological issues discussed, including the nature of creativity and its associations with art. Section three gives issues in art and learning. The final section considers the notion of creating aesthetic significance as a fundamental human urge.
