Amsterdam : comments on a city of culture

Trevor Davies, director of the Copenhagen International Theatre, was invited by Amsterdam to be the first 'Cultural commentator', for a period of 14 days in October 1999. A number of themes were decided upon, but would only be guidelines: the public domain in Amsterdam; infrastructure and structures in the cultural sector; the question of supply and demand within the cultural sector, including artists facilities; the demands to the cultural section of the changing population of the city. Davies' approach is to make an 'across the board' look at the cultural life of the city, informal, based on dialogue and on visits to institutions and projects.
