Abstract
The new media field is rapidly maturing in Europe. Networked media are becoming commonplace, and formerly distinct media and communication infrastructures are converging, opening up countless new avenues for new services, new distribution channels for cultural products, as well as new modes of cultural production to be developed. This publication is a source book on the new media cultures. Its aim is to raise questions about the current status of the new media cultures in Europe and the possible directions they might be moving into. The majority of the articles focus on current work being done by individuals and organisations, often as part of international projects. Including the Hybrid Media Lounge, a spin-off cd-rom of a website database.
