Samenvatting In recent decades Dutch arts policy was based on a consensus, which now no longer exists. There appears to be disagreement between political parties about the benefit of government subsidies but the crux of the matter is a shared unease about the position the arts occupy in nowadays society. The art sector is too inward looking. It is high time for culture to seek a broader basis of support, a middle point in society. We face a future in which art and society will deal with each other in a completely different way. A dynamic society needs the arts and it is essential that art entwines its tentacles in all kinds of ways throughout society. |
