Samenvatting The impetus for allowing unrestricted universal access to museums should be read not only in terms of a manifestation of liberal progress, but rather as a new form of regulating mechanism which sought to expose working-class people to the pedagogic mores of middle-class culture. This was a culture that was seen as fundamentally civilizing. New exhibitonary complexes had to be build which had there own architectural problems, not only for the facade but also for the decoration of the internal space. |
