Samenvatting
The Design Trust for Public Space is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality and understanding of New York City's public built environment. Their goal is: to provide project-specific, state-of-the-art design experience. Nine major cultural institutions make their home in Long Island City. Their neighbourhood's industrial character discouraged some visitors. A plan was developed to overcome barriers between the institutions, to make a better access to the institutions, which are devided by a disorienting infrastructure. The Design Trust developed an innovative approach that employs unconventional urban planning tools such as web- or telecom-based wayfinding, underused public transportation such as bicycle sharing and branding strategies that exploit Long Island's City's landscape.
