Samenvatting Since its founding in 1913, the Rockefeller Foundation has based its support for creativity and culture on the belief that the free expression of creative individuals is indispensable to strong societies. As the Foundation refocuses its strategy to adress today's challenges of globalization, the Creativity & culture program aims to enhance the imaginative talents of individuals and communities through the preservation and renewal of the cultural heritage of poor and excluded people, and the involvement of artists and humanists in the creation of democratic and inclusive societies. In May 2001artists and activists from the field of community cultural development were invited for a meeting at its conference center in Bellagio, Italy. One of the results is this anthology with essays on culture, community and globalization and experiences with community cultural development around the world. |
