Samenvatting
Musea stellen vragen met betrekking tot het gebruik van bepaalde terminologie. Welke woorden worden wel gebruikt en welke niet in museumteksten en in welke context? Hoe wordt omgegaan met collectieregistratie? En is het woordgebruik eigenlijk nog wel van deze tijd? De publicatie is bedoeld om meer inzicht te geven in de politieke en sociale lading van bepaalde woorden die in musea worden gebruikt.
The words and norms around language are constantly in transition can cause confusion and discomfort to those accustomed to these words; this is also true within museums. But society changes, and language changes with it. Museum objects may be timeless, but the ways people speak about them are not. But precisely which words are these? And, more importantly, why are particular words understood as derogatory or offensive, and by whom? List of words meant for exhibition makers, curators, marketers and educators with an explanation of why a particular word is considered sensitive or contested, and alternative terms that may be used in the museum practice.
