Samenvatting
Report presents the outcomes of research undertaken by the LEM Working Group on New Trends in Museums of the 21st century to identify emergent trends in the museum world at a time of rapidly changing circumstances. It comprises a series of essays, which look at broad issues in the museum field, such as: access, sustainability, the development of collections, de-accessioning, new technologies, lifelong learning, public programming, participation, etc. A number of case histories of European museums illustrate some of these trends. An essay on ‘Key trends in museums in East Asia in the 21st Century’ is also included, to set the European perspective in a wider world framework.
