Samenvatting
The aim of this study is to examine the impact of the changing structure of the global art market. For decades, the market for works of art has been built around the two art centres of London and New York. However since about 2005, several new "emerging art markets" are now making a significant impact on its size, structure, dynamics and outlook. This research follows a major study sponsored by TEFAF in 2007/2008, The International Art Market: A Survey of Europe in a Global Context. It was carried out to investigate further the speed with which the art markets of China and the other emerging economies of India, Russia and the Middle East have developed and the impact of the new collectors from their rapidly growing economies. The study addresses some of the important issues that may shape the art market going forward in the current climate of global economic turmoil. Bespreking verschenen in de Volkskrant, 13-3-2009.
