Samenvatting Audience development has been one of the most discussed topics in the UK cultural sector in recent years. This paper argues that the discourse on audience development is based on several assumptions which are questionable when examined in a wider, societal context. In the first part of the study the author points out the theoretical problems, the second part examines audience development in practice, based on a case study on a particular audience development project undertaken by an ensemble in contemporary music. The final section discusses the implications of the findings. |
