Samenvatting
Topics of the CIRCLE Round Table were globalization and liberalization of the market economy and the care for cultural diversity. Cultural industries became the subject of heated disputes of politicians and economists. The problem evolves around cultural industries in international trade, starting from the GATT Uruguay round, through the WTO and the OECD. The dispute concerns the issue whether the products of cultural industries are to be treated as regular trade products, or if they should be granted a special status, given to the traditionally subsidised fields of culture.
