Samenvatting
The Creative Industries is a key growth sector for the UK economy, contributing £11.5 billion to the balance of trade. It includes designer fashion, film, interactive leisure software, music, the performing arts and publishing. Yet despite its vibrancy, it is suffering from under-investment through a lack of market intelligence, poor investor understanding of creative industries business models, and difficulty on the part of creative businesses to become investment ready. This research involved consultations with fifty senior representatives from private and public sector investors, Government departments, Creative Industries development initiatives and expert Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs). It finds that: There is a need for improved knowledge about the sector that helps investors to make informed decisions; Financial products are required that are more suitable for creative businesses; Business training is required for creative entrepreneurs and graduates; The need to encourage the development of clusters of creative businesses.
