Samenvatting American pop culture - Hollywood cinema, television, pop music - dominates the rest of the world through its hegemonic presence. Does that make everyone a hybridized American, or do these elements find mediation within the other cultures that consume them? In two parts the subject is examined. Part one examines American pop-cultural artifacts that are produces in the in America but that are globally mediated, including the Netherlands. In tree chapters is showed how an imagined America can be recognized. Part two examines pop-cultural artifacts that are produces and only consumed in the Netherlands, and which clearly have been inspired by American pop culture. |
