Samenvatting
A good number of the antiquities in many of our most prestigious museums, and held in the best-known collections, have been illegally excavated and passed through the hand of corrupt dealers, curators and auction houses. Very beautiful ancient sculptures and exquisitely painted Greek and Etruscan vases, excavated illegally and smuggled abroad, passes through the doors of Sotheby's auction house, the Getty Museum, the British Museum, the Berlin Museum of Classical Antiquities and the MoMa in New York. A thirty-year conspiracy was exposed: theft, smuggling and duplicitous dealing, starting with the trial of a former curator at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles in 2005. Giacomo Medici was the centre of the network of fraud and illegal trade.
