Samenvatting
A large-scale national study of the livelihoods, careers and needs of visual artists in England had not been carried out in the previous decade, therefore this study aimed to refresh knowledge and understanding of visual artists in England. The research study aims to inform the future work of the wider visual arts sector including Arts Council England and the Project. The study is designed to address four key research aims, as follows: 1. To understand the challenges and barriers faced by visual artists that prevents them from realising their full potential; 2. To understand how social, cultural and environmental factors such as employment status, education, age and gender, affect the career and talent development of visual artists, and the implications of this for workforce diversity; 3. To understand where artists are located and the factors which affect the movement and retention of artists between the regions, London and internationally; 4. To understand the variation between different sub-art forms within the visual arts and their relationship with the Creative Industries.
