Samenvatting
Earlier publications in Cultural Trends on the quality metrics framework "Culture Counts" have provoked a number of critical articles. In response, this thematic section collects comments and replies from invited authors on what is apparently a highly contested issue. David Throsby comments on the critical article by Phiddian, Meyrick, Barnett, and Maltby (in Cultural Trends 26.2), to which the four aforementioned authors, in their turn, respond. Andrew Mowlah, of the Arts Council England (one of Culture Counts' initiators and supporters) lists some of the application's goals and discusses results of a pilot; John Smithies does the same for Australia; Rosemary James-Beith discusses the considerations why Culture Counts was not introduced in Scotland.
