Samenvatting
This study investigates the reasons for networking in two institutionalized music production systems: an opera house and a music festival. It focuses on the different stakeholders’ perceptions of the value of networking and the motives for establishing and maintaining network ties. The empirical analysis is based on case studies of the Finnish National Opera and the Pori Jazz Festival. The results suggest that although the level of institutionalization is similar in the two cases, the different sources of financing influence the quality and quantity of organizational network ties. Furthermore, strong network ties function as a platform for collaboration, creating value for both internal and external stakeholders. At the same time, network leadership affects the valuation of network ties.
