Samenvatting
Met lit. opg. This paper analyzes differences between the reading habits and behaviors of the elderly 'young', the 65 to 74 year age group and the 'old' elderly, the 75 to 96 year age group. Will the older seniors read more as they substitute reading for the more active pursuits of their hale 60's? Results can be summarized as follows : (1) Except for television watching, all activities were found to decline as respondents were older. (2) Among declining leisure participation reading declines less. Reading in most forms continues to sustain people as they grow older and does so more strongly than most leisure activities.
