Samenvatting Symposium brought professionals together to reflect on the future of the art museum from the perspective of those involved in the day-to-day production, presentation, and interpretation of works of art. It was occasioned by the publication of David Carrier's book, Museum skepticism. In this review of the symposium Rika Burnham, educator at the Metropolitan museum of art, and Elliott Kai-Kee, educator at the J.Paul Getty Museum, wrote about their experiences with several projects that address education in the art museum. Curator of collections at the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art Sean Ulmer offers an analysis of Carrier's book through the lens of his own practice as a curator. Curator and critic Klaus Ottmann reflects on the role of art experience and the museum's responsibility to celebrate and nourish it. And finally, artist Enrique martinez Celaya reflects on the future of the art museum from the perspective of the artist. Carrier will then offer his own reflections on the symposium and its relationship to his own work. |
