Samenvatting
Three papers presented at the Annual Conference 1999 of the International Committee for Regional Museums (ICR) in Athens, in cooperation with ICOM National Committee of Greece, called 'Improving Museum Quality'. Contributors are Margriet Lestraden, giving an overview of the developments in different countries, especially the Netherlands; Laura Ryan, presenting an American method of how to deal with quality and higher standards in museums; Susan Underwood, presenting the accreditation system in use within Britain. In 2000 ICR held the Annual Conference in Nairobi. The purpose was to bring up practical aspects of museum quality issues. George Abungu was one of the keynote speakers, his contribution deals with the role of museums in Africa and is also published here. Jane Legget writes an article on general museum quality questions in Asia-Pacific, presented during the General Conference in Barcelona 2001. Finally, Ximena Valea and Sigfrido Jiménez describe examples on how museums in Latin America are dealing with quality.
