Samenvatting
The work of Maxime Green, her concept of aesthetic education, shows a way to implement constructing meaning in our teaching practices. She calls this aesthetic inquiry. This can reconnect people to the world, and with that, people will realize more fully their human freedom. In the first chapter the scientific and the aesthetic worldview, uncoupling the self and freedom and their relation to constructing meaning are discussed. This places Maxine Greene's concept of aesthetic education in the philosophical traditions of continental philosophy, specifically existentialism and phenomenology. In the second chapter Maxine Green's concept of aesthetic education and constructing meaning is discussed. In the third chapter attention is given to the implications for teaching.
