Samenvatting The story of the astounding 1873 discovery by the first modern archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann, of the lost gold of Priam, king of ancient Troy. The author explores his extraordinary life and how he contrieved to smuggle three million gold chains, elaborate silver pictures, and gold coins from his dig in Asia Minor to his government in Berlin. The story continues in 1945 when Schliemann's treasures was pillaged by the Nazis and vanished from sight, until it was revealed in 1993 to be in Moscow but still inaccessible to the world. |
