Samenvatting Rapid changes in the cultural industries and support for the arts and humanities in the United States of America, as well as simmering tensions on the battlefield of culture wars, have brought culture and policy together as never before. Cultural policymaking in the US has often been creative in linking public and private sector initiatives, but escpecially at the national level it has been fitful, even after the creation of the National Endowment for the Arts. Budgets were small and have been diminishing the last two decades. Cultural policy making had been predicated on a characteristically American blend of federalism joined with private philanthropic and commercial initatives. Perspectives fot the century ahead, to understand the complex relationship between culture and policy and the impact of globlisation. Review in: Journal of cultural economics.26(2002)2(may.161-163). |
