'Not just any body: advancing health, well-being and excellence in dance and dancers' was one of the largest dance conferences, held in 1999. Participants were linked through site-specific workshops and joint satellite sessions in Toronto and The Hague as well as other downlink and internet sites around the world. This publication includes reflections from 183 contributores who are active in dance today, providing a stimulating primer of the issues facing the dance world. Chapters include: the dancer's career, safety in dance, the dance of perfection, body politics. Featured are for example a ballet dancer openly describing her lifelong struggle with anorexia and an analyst discussing her work on dancers' addiction to perfection. |
