Samenvatting
Data gathered in in-depth interviews with a carefully selected sample of visual artists, about their career path and career development. Questions about the early artistic development, the formal vocational training, foundation course, degree course, their first start as artist, succes, career path, residencies, awards and commissions, teaching, exhibiting, galleries and art dealers, facilitators and barriers, income and the future. Two key features of visual artists's careers stand out as being different from traditional careers or other careers in the arts: the relationship between making work and earning money from that work, and the apparently haphazerd career paths that most visual artists have followed.
