Samenvatting
How does the contemporary Dutch media’s representation of gabber mediate its subcultural identity and how does it reanimate or reframe its stereotypes for mainstream appeal? To answer this research question, the primary corpus consists of four audiovisual media objects recently produced in the Netherlands. Along with “Europapa”, the film Hardcore Never Dies (2023) is being analyzed as well as two recent documentaries: Een Gabber Gaat Naar Huis (2023) and De Nieuwe Gabbers (2022).
