Museums and the appropriation of culture

Met bibliogr. Met reg. Indigenous people are claiming a say in the way that their cultures are represented. The papers in this volume consider the issues that arise, such as the influence of Europeans and European ideas on the cultural perceptions of the `other', the museum as an appropriating agency and how adults appropriate childhood. Furthermore museum presentations that embrace particular `political' circumstances are analyzed.
